Glowing tributes paid to Mahatma, Shastri on their birth anniversaries

JAMMU, Oct 2: Glowing tributes were paid to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi by political parties, social and other organizations on his 150th birth anniversary across Jammu region today. Rich tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri whose birthday also falls today.
A programme was organised by Gandhi Global Family J&K at Mubarak Mandi here to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Sanjeev Verma who was the chief guest on the occasion said that the Gandhian Philosophy has become more relevant in the recent times. He highlighted importance of inculcating the values of Gandhian philosophy especially among the younger generations for a peaceful and healthy future.
Chairman Gandhi Global Family, Sobha Ram and others paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion. ADGP, Dr S D Singh, Secretary Higher Education, Talat Parvez Rohella, Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Ludhiana, Rohit Mehra, Director Tourism, Jammu, Deepika Sharma were awarded with Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal for their contribution in imbibing peace and moral values in society.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and culmination of first phase of Swachhta Hi Seva Mission in the district, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Indu Kanwal Chib felicitated sanitation workers by calling them as Swachhta Prahri, (watchers of cleanliness) and lauded their role in keeping Reasi clean. She also gave a trophy to Swachhta Prahri Kuldeep at a programme held in the office of BDO, Reasi.
The DC earlier led a march from district Headquarter to Reasi Bus Stand and offered Shramdaan along with other district officers. The team led by her helped in cleaning entire dump of garbage and later marched through the town spreading awareness about cleanliness and use of separate dustbins for wet and dry waste.
Department of Information and Public Relations today organised a cultural cum awareness programme to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi here at Auditorium of the Department. The theme of the programme is Swachhta hi Seva hain with special focus on Say No to single use of plastic.
In his address Joint Director Information, Jammu, Naresh Kumar highlighted the importance of cleanliness and bad effects of use of plastic.
The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at Gandhi Bhavan, near Civil Secretariat here and the participants in the function remembered Father of Nation by paying floral tributes to him. The function among others was attended by MP, Jugal Kishore Sharma, RSS leader, Dr Gautam Mengi, Justice (retd) G D Sharma, Colonel (retd) Vimal Mehta, Dr Ved Kumari Ghai and Jagdish Chander.
Rajinder Kakar, secretary, Gandhi Bhavan Committee conducted the proceedings. The speakers highlighted the role of Mahatma whose freedom struggle was based on principles of non violence and truth.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Director Information and Public Relations, Dr Sehrish Asgar asked officials to discourage single use of plastic in office premises besides take a solemn pledge to keep environment clean.
Presiding over a function at Auditorium of DIPR , she highlighted the ill effects of single use of plastic and polythene on the environment. The Director asked the participants to take a pledge for discouraging its use as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has been stressing the same in his speech under Swachhta hi Seva hai campaign.
Dr Sehrish remembered the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in changing the lives of millions of people in India based on principle of non violence.
District Administration Samba, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Rohit Khajuria, organized a rally under the aegis of Fit India programme in which large number of students, District Officers and people from different walks of life participated.
During the rally, the participants raised slogans of clean India and exhorted the local population to take active part in this novel programme. The rally started from GHSS boys, Samba and concluded at Samba fort with distribution of certificates among the participants. Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee, Samba were also honored for their efforts in making district clean and health.
Mayor, JMC Chander Mohan Gupta, Deputy Mayor, Purnima Sharma, Chairman, Swachh Bharat Standing Committee, Suraj Parkash Padha, Chairman, Public Health Sanitation Standing Committee, Baldev Singh Billawria, Chairman, Social Justice Standing Committee, Jeet Angral and Commissioner, JMC, Pankaj Magotra alongwith officers and officials of JMC participated and assisted the Safaikaramcharies in Shramdhan (cleanliness drive) which started from Panjtirthi, Jammu and culminated at Sidhra bridge. JMC also organized felicitation function at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground, Jammu to honour the Green Champions from different schools, NGOs and individuals who collected single use plastic during an intensive drive conducted by JMC in collaboration with Directorate of School Education Jammu, various Social and Non Governmental Organizations.
Shiksha Niketan HS School, Jeevan Nagar, Guru Harkrishan Public School, Nanak Nagar and Cooperative Public School Deeli got 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively in highest collection of single use plastic. Three students namely Avneet Kour from Guru Harkrishan Public School, Nanak Nagar, Tibarak from Cooperative Public School Deeli and Divesh from Shiksha Niketan HS School, Jeevan Nagar who collected highest quantity of single use plastic were declared as 1st, 2nd and 3rd City Green Champions respectively.
Impressive cultural activities and Nukkad Natak were also performed by the students from different schools and Lok Nath Yatar.
Swarangan Meditation Charitable Trust (NGO) was also felicitated for collecting and handing over 8 quintals of single use plastic to JMC.
IPCA (Indian Pollution Control Association), NHIDCL (National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd.), Indian Oil M/s Shree Swastik Plastic Industries, M/s Flexo Industries, M/s Shivam Plastic House, M/s Shivam Polymers who are the implementation partners also participated.
All the Green Champions, City Champions, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize holders were felicitated by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner JMC along with others.
Commemorating Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, Regional Outreach Bureau, Jammu Municipality of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India today organised a five day multimedia exhibition at Government Higher Secondary School Katra showcasing the life, struggle and philosophy of Mahatma through digital display and interactive inter phases to engage public including students also. The exhibition was inaugurated by PRO Defence , Udhampur , Lt Colonel, Abhinav Navneet in presence of Deputy Director , Regional Outreach Bureau, Jammu, Neha Jalali. Both of them recalled the services of Mahatma Gandhi to nation especially his towering role in leading the freedom struggle of country.
Dogra Sadar Sabha , (DSS) Jammu under the leadership of its president Gulchain Singh Charak also celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri with great enthusiasm and charm today. It also celebrated the 153rd birth day of Lala Hans Raj Mahajan founder of DSS who was born on October 2 in 1866 at Hamirpur Sidhar in Akhnoor tehsil.
Congress leader Thakur Hoshiar Singh paid glowing tributes to Father of Nation at a function organized at Krishna Palace Durga Nagar today. Tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister of India Lal Bahadur Shastri whose birth anniversary also falls today.
Former MLA and chief patron Dogra Kranti, Balwant Singh Mankotia in collaboration with Chairman Sarv Sewa Samiti , Robin Sharma organised 15th Marthon run against drugs on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti at Kathua today. District Development Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Raghav Langer flagged off the marathon at Sports Stadium Kathua. Hundreds of youth participated in the run which after passing through main markets of the town culminated at Sports Stadium, Kathua. Additional SP, Ramesh Gupta and DySP Headquarters, Majid Khan were the special guests on the occasion.
On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Arnia Mandal unit of BJP organised, Gandhi Sankalp Yatra in the Arnia town today. The yatra was conducted under the chairmanship Ramesh Saini, Mandal Pradhan and the chairman of Arnia Town Municipal Committee. Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, BJP State spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs was the chief guest on the occasion. The yatra passed through Ward No 10 Mahasha Bohri, Mandir Chowk, Basant Chowk, Main Bazaar, Ramlila Chowk and Chungi Arnia. It was also joined by Bharat Bhushan Sharma, Mandal vice president, Municipal Councilors, Naresh Kumar, Raman Kumar, Jang Bahadur, Girdhar Gopal, Surinder Kumar, Navin Saini, and Sachin Kumar youth activist. Chrungoo said Gandhi Ji was a champion of non-violence, peace, Swacchta, Khadi and Swadeshi.
BJP Corporator Ward 41 and secretary of the party, Sanjay Baru on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and in connection with launch of Swachhta Hi Seva Hai by PM, Narendra Modi today distributed notebooks, pens, pencils and other stationery items and refreshment among 75 school children in the Ward. He also distributed jackets, Gloves and other items among the Safai Karamcharis of the Ward. BJP media secretary, Dr Pardeep Magotra on the occasion administered a solemn pledge to Safai Karamcharis and others to make the PM’s campaign successful by keeping surroundings clean.
Pradesh Youth Congress J&K paid glowing tributes to Mahatma Gandhi today. Led by Uday Chib , president, PYC and Iftikar Ahmed national coordinator, Youth Congress, the party activists assembled at Satwari Chowk and paid glowing tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Chib said philosophy of Mahatma is relevant in all times.

Manaavadhikar National Party (MNP) led by Sanjay Dhar also organised a function today to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and pledged to work for taking his mission forward.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Swachhta Hi Seva campaign announced by PM Narendra Modi, SBI Kargil branch organised cleanliness campaign in Kargil town. All the nearby hoteliers of Kargil and other shopkeepers along with SBI staff participated in cleanliness drive.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti all the staff of Anutham Hotel took the initiative for participation in Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign and went on drive from Anutham Hotel to Kunjawani Chowk in which senior BJP leader and MLC Ch. Vikram Randhawa also participated. The speakers on the occasion said the launching of cleanliness drive is the best tribute to Gandhi Ji.
In connection with celebration of Gandhi Jayanti a mega cleanliness drive in association with Indian Railways was held at more than 350 Railway Stations, Pan India. In Jammu the drive was held at Jammu-Tawi Railway Station. About 1500 volunteers from all groups participated in the drive which was flagged off by Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta. Ajit Singh Zonal incharge SNM, Jammu also attended the programme.
Sunrise School with prominent Civil Society members celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in School premises today and paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation on the occasion. A colourful programme was organised by the students on the occasion. National Executive Council member National Students Council (NSC) and prominent social activist Er Rishi Kaul Kilm also spoke on the occasion. Nagendr Jamwal from media was the chief guest in the function.
In connection with celebration of Gandhi Jayanti, Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu organised cleanliness drive on the occasion of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which is also being celebrated as Swachhta Divas. Speaking on the occasion Dr Taran Singh Medical Superintendent , Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu stressed upon the participants to keep the surroundings clean and adopt environment friendly habits.
In the wake of the Swachh Bharat campaign organized throughout the country and to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, J&K State Pollution Control Board Jammu organised a cleanliness drive involving “Shramdaan” and awareness activities, in the office complex of SPCB Jammu to keep the surroundings neat and clean by removing garbage from the premises. The drive was organised under the supervision of Brij Mohan Sharma, Member Secretary , PCB on the directives of Suresh Chug , Chairman JKPCB.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti an impressive rally cum function was organised by the Municipal Committee Khour in which all the officers of civil administration including chairman MC Khour, CDPO Khour, MO Khour, AEE PDD, SHO, Khour, Naib tehsildar, principals and headmasters of the area along with students participated. The function started with a rally which was flagged off by Chairman MC Khour who was the chief guest on the occasion.
The Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with great enthusiasm by Khadi Gram Mandal Jammu. In this connection a function was held at Nanak Nagar. The floral tributes were paid to Mahatma on the occasion and Subash Chander, secretary of the organisation highlighted the significance of the day.
Glowing tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri by president National Democratic Party Indian (NDPI), Rajesh Gupta at a function organised by the party here today. On the occasion, Gupta recalled the services of the two great leaders to the nation.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti a cleanliness drive was organised by 33 Battalion CRPF at Preet Nagar Gangyal and adjoining areas near here in which A Padma Kumar Commandant of the Battalion, Mrs Neeraj Tyagi second in chief and Kumar Neeraj, Deputy Commandant and other officers and jawans participated.
JRC Home for handicapped Udheywalla, Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great zeal and enthusiasm today. The programme started with cleaning of surroundings of the Home under Swachh Bharat Mission. R K Khajuria chairman of the Home advised the inmates to contribute towards a clean and fresh environment.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by Old Age Home and Bal Ashram Udhampur in collaboration with senior citizens Club Udhampur in the premises of Old Age Home Udhampur today. The function was chaired by Dr R C Nagar, president Old Age Home Udhampur and DIG , Udhampur Reasi Range, Sujit Kumar Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. The speakers recalled the towering role of Mahatma Gandhi in freedom struggle, They also paid tributes to Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti Singh Youth Club Sunderbani in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra , Rajouri organised two km long marathon race and collected waste material, plastic bags and polythene in the area. Hundreds of the students of Harsh Niketan Higher Secondary School, Sunderbani took part in the race.
Marking the commencement of 150th birth anniversary if Mahatma Gandhi, the officers of district administration headed by Additional district Development Commissioner, Leh Moses Kunzang carried out day long “Shramdhan programme” under Swachta hi Sewa programme at Solid Resource Management Centre, Solar Colony Choglamsar. This initiative was aimed at appealing people to be a part of this movement and strengthen the efforts to create Swachh Bharat.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti an awareness rally was organized by Municipal Committee, Bari Brahmana against ill effects of Single Use Plastic. The rally was attended by Deputy Director, president vice president, including Ward members as well as officers and officials of Municipal Committee, Bari Brahmana in order to aware general public about the ill effects of single use of plastic.
The Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated by International Daily Rising School as Swachh Bharat Campaign. The IDRS School handout said that its vision is to make the students aware about the importance of hygiene and proper sanitation facilities encouraging them to keep every nook and corner of their surroundings pollution free.
To celebrate 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) based at Bhadarwah organised a marathon titled “Run for Unity”. The 5 km and 3 km marathon for male and female categories respectively was flagged-off from premises of Bhaderwah University Campus by GOC Delta Force, Major General Ravi Morgan in presence of Commander 4 sector RR, NJ Singh, Commanding Officer (CO) 4 RR, DD Pandey and Rector Bhaderwah Campus Prof Anil K Raina. On the occasion, beside Army officers including GOC Delta Force, Commander 4 Sector CO 4 RR, students from Bhadarwah Campus, Colleges, Government and private schools and large number of locals also participated. In female category, Sangeeta Devi of GDC Bhaderwah, Tabassum Bano of ISS Institute and Versha Devi of Girls Higher Secondary School Bhadarwah stood first, second and third respectively. In Male category, Mohammad Sadiq of GDC Kilhotran, Saqib of Green Model Academy and Manish Kumar of GDC Bhaderwah remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Later, a cleanliness drive under Swacch Bharat Abhiyan was also organized in the premises of Bhaderwah Campus.
The cleanness campaign was launched by Municipal Council Kathua to mark Gandhi Jayanti. Municipal Council Kathua led its Vice President Rekha Kumari started cleanness drive from office of Municipal Council. The drive was also carried out in various parts of the Kathua city. Municipal Councilors, staff members and sweeper join the cleanliness drive.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, an awareness rally on the theme ‘Say No to Plastic Use’ was taken out by District Administration in the Kathua city. The rally passed through various parts of the city. Students Government schools and colleges also participated in the rally. Nukkad natak was also staged by the artists. Deputy Commissioner Kathua Raghav Langer was also present on the occasion.
District Legal Service Authority in collaboration with Municipal Council CEO Sanjeev Gandotra Kathua organized awareness programme and rally in Kathu city to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The rally started from District Court Complex Kathua was led by DLSA vice Chairman Sub Judge Arti Mohan. During the rally, the shopkeepers were asked to stop using plastic bags.
Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing ‘Gandhi ji ke Priye Bhajan’ Bhajan Sandhya at KL Saigal Hall. Munir-Ul-Islam, Secretary, JKAACL was the chief guest, who while speaking informed that JKAACL is organizing more activities in future including multilingual mushiara tomorrow at KL Saigal Hall as a part of Gandhi Jayanti. Prof Jasmeet Kaur, Suraj Singh and Nandani Kapoor sung bhajans. The eminent singer Jeewan Sharma also enthralled the audience. The music was assisted with Rakesh Anand (flute), Bahadur Singh (violin), Joginder Pal (Tabla), Deepak Kumar (Synth) and Vijay Anand (Dholak). The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Bishan Das, Assistant Cultural Officer, while vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, JKAACL.
On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Imperial Apartments Society Channi Himmat Jammu organized swatchhata programme in the premises. All the inhabitants of the society took active part in the programme under the supervision of Society President Farooq Chowdhary, Vice President Niwas Badyal with some other prominent members, Kiran Jeet Kaur, Mukesh Kumar, Rajinder Kaur, YP Gupta, Rita Jamwal, Amiara and JP Singh.
