Glaucoma Screening Camp begins at Command Hospital

UDHAMPUR, Mar 29: The month-long ‘Glaucoma Awareness and Screening camp’ organized by Command Hospital of Northern Command, began here today.
Anshul Chachra, President, Family Welfare Organisation (FWO), Northern Command (NC), also visited the Camp.
The month long awareness campaign, whose theme is “Beat invisible Glaucoma”, is a venture wherein Command Hospital (NC) has joined hands with the global crusade for fight against Glaucoma (Kala Motia), a disease which is called the silent courtier for causing blindness.
On the occasion, Mrs Chachra also released a book on ‘Health & Wellness’ imparting general information about various health issues.
While speaking on the occasion, Chachra highlighted the importance of screening camps in prevention of this disease. She wished the workshop a resounding success and thanked Commandant, Command Hospital, Maj Gen Bipin Puri and his team for the very noble endeavor.
Maj Gen Puri while speaking highlighted the role of awareness and diagnostic camps to empower common people with knowledge of a disease which if not diagnosed may result in blindness. He complimented the team of doctors for organizing the camp in a professional manner.
Col VK Baranwal, HoD, Deptt of Opthalmology Command Hospital gave a demonstration of the diagnostic instruments used for diagnosis of this disabling disease. He explained that Glaucoma (Kala Motia) was one of the leading causes of blindness and can affect all age groups from children to elderly. In the early stages, the disease remains innocuous and asymptomatic but advanced untreated disease results in irreversible blindness, he added.
