Giving teeth to Army

Our country has decided to gradually shift to indigenous production of military hardware and not depend on foreign purchases. India is still one of the top countries in the world that purchase arms worth billions of rupees from advanced countries with state of art manufacturing capability of latest arms and their designs. Generally, the developed countries do not sell the technology to the developing countries; they only sell the arms. However, with the inception of Defence Research  and Development Organisation (DRDO), the decision of our country of producing arms and weapons indigenously received big boost. Particularly in the area of missiles, our scientists and technocrats have made tremendous progress. DRDO has produced many kinds of missiles and has handed over these to the Army. The latest addition is of surface to air missile called Akash. It has been formally inducted in to the Army at an inaugural ceremony. The missile can hit helicopters, aircrafts and UAVs from a range of 25 kms.
India is a peace loving country. However, she is flanked by two neighbours both inimical to us. India has a place among the developing countries and is well poised to be included into the permanent member body of the Security Council. We, therefore, need to have adequate defence potential so that our adversaries are not encouraged to point finger at us. We have a vast borderline as well as long coastline. We need to protect the territorial integrity of the country. Our missile regime has to be of the state of art quality and we need most sophisticated weaponry so that it proves deterrent to ill-intended neighbours on our west and east.
