Girls outshine boys in 12 class results

Srinagar, May 25: The girls today bagged top positions in the results of class 12th of Kashmir region declared by Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) today.
The first position was shared by five girl students all from Science stream who secured 490 marks with a percentage of 98.0 percent. These 1st position holders are Bismah Hasan from Iqbal Memorial Institute Girls Wing Higher Secondary School Bemina Srinagar, Husna Ashraf and Madiha Manzoor both the student of Mallinson Girls Higher Secondary School Sheikh Bagh Srinagar, Misbah Kounain of SRM Welkin Higher Secondary School Sopore and Nimra Gulzar from Iqbal Memorial Institute Girls Wing Momin Abad Islamabad.
Basirah Ashai, a student of Green Valley Educational Institute Srinagar topped the merit list in Commerce faculty by securing 484 marks with a percentage of 96.8 while in Arts faculty Sadaf Khurshid from Government Girls Higher secondary School Kothibagh secured the 1st position by getting 488 marks with a percentage of 97.6. Lubna Binti Mushtaq from Government Higher Secondary School Anantnag topped the merit list in Home Science stream. She secured 478 marks with a percentage of 95.6.
The 8 students who secured 1st positions in all the streams are girls while out of 94 students who secured first 20 positions only 25 are boys.
Out of 52751 candidates enrolled for the examination, 29109 candidates passed it while last year out of 51391 candidates 26763 candidates had passed the examination. The pass percentage increased by 3 per cent this year
In stream-wise break-up, 40 percent boys and 44 percent girls passed in Arts stream. While in Commerce stream the pass percentage for boys was 62 and for girls it was 82. 71 Percent boys and 77 percent girls passed in Science stream.
The first position holder Bisma of Rajbagh said that they were displaced due to last year’s floods and had shifted to Soura locality. “I was under strain after floods devastated everything. I lost all my study material and not a single Reference Book was at my disposal after the September Floods. With the support of my parents and teachers, I prepared for exams. It hardly matters whether you succeed or not but the important thing is that you have put all your efforts in realizing your dream”, she said.
Misbah Kounain Sofi of restive Sopore town said: “I do believe in hardwork and for me hardwork is itself luck. Studying with dedication and with heart and soul always bear positive fruits. Once you work hard and concentrate on your studies, you will definitely make a mark.”
