Girl drowns in reservoir, 2 rescued

SRINAGAR, June 24: A girl drowned in a reservoir of Irrigation and Flood Control Department at Chinigund village in district Anantnag this afternoon while two others were rescued. The incident triggered protests and agitated protesters damaged a Government building.
Superintedent of Police Anantnag, Junaid Mehmood, told Excelsior that three girls slipped into an Irrigation and Flood Control Department reservoir at Chinigund Anantnag while they were playing.
Two of the girls, Meenu, 15, daughter of Mushtaq Ahmad Rather and Nazima, 15, daughter of Mohammad Ishfaq Parray, were rescued and rushed to hospital while another girl, Misbah, 13, sister of Meenu, drowned in the reservoir.
The SP said that angry protesters damaged a building of the IFCD.
