Ghagwal police seizes 5.5 kgs of poppy straw, arrests driver

SAMBA, Mar 9: Acting against the drug menace, district police, Samba arrested a driver of oil tanker in the jurisdiction of PS Ghagwal and recovered five kg 500 grams of poppy straw from him.
As per reports, a police party of PS Ghagwal headed by Inspector, Rajeev Kumar, SHO, PS Ghagwal under the supervision of Deepak Digra, DySP Hqrs. Samba during vehicle checking naka at NHW Tapyal, under the jurisdiction of Ghagwal Police Station intercepted one oil tanker bearing registration Number PB65AD-6861 which, was coming from Jammu and checked it thoroughly. During checking of the vehicle, five and half kgs (5kg-500grams) of poppy straw was recovered from the back side of driver’s seat. The driver identified as Kamaljit, S/o Jaswant Singh, R/o Ugla Barda, Amballa, Punjab was arrested on spot alongwith contraband items.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 21/2019 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act registered at PS Ghagwal and investigation taken up.
The drive against the drug menace in the district has been launched on the directives of SSP Samba, Dr Koshal Sharma, a handout issued by district police, Samba said.
