SAMBA, Jan 10:Villagers and shopkeepers protested demanding shifting of the transformer from the main market of Ghagwal.
According to the report, there is a possibility of accident due to the open power transformer in Ghagwal market. The shopkeepers said that the transformer installed by the Electricity Department is open due to lack of boundary wall and in such a situation many times due to gushing wind it is posing a threat to people as well as live stock moving from the area.
There is every apprehension of accident as the transformer is lying in a precarious condition, they added.
While talking with media persons, local shopkeeper, Surinder Gupta, said the area where the transformer is lying being the main market place and hundreds of people daily visit Shri Narsing temple which is near by. The Electricity Department officials were made aware of the problem many times, but none of them is paying attention. They warned that Power Development Department will be responsible for any mishap.
The shopkeepers demanded that the transformer be shifted from the market to safer place so that they are relieved of the worry and there will be no threat of accident.
While talking to an official of the Electricity Department, he said that there is a problem of replacing the transformer from the market due to lack of suitable space. He said after getting the suitable place for the installation of transformer it will be shifted to that place.
