Germany’s Merkel says more talks needed on China’s market economy status

BEIJING, June 13:  There is a need for more expert-level talks with China on its market economy status under the World Trade Organization, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today at a news briefing with China’s Premier Li Keqiang. Li said trade disputes with the European Union were a small part of trade ties and that China did not want a trade war. Merkel also said Germany expects China’s market to be open to foreign investment and that she did not want to see China’s new law on foreign non-governmental organisations harms NGO’s work in the country.  (AGENCIES)
