JAMMU, Apr 24: Army chief Gen Bikram Singh visited Rashtriya Rifles formations at Darmund in Doda district and Sila in Kishtwar district and 10 Div at Akhnoor on second day of his visit to Jammu region before flying back to New Delhi.
Gen Singh, accompanied by GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen KT Parnaik and GOC 16 Corps Lt Gen DS Hooda, reviewed security scenario in parts of Jammu region and the Line of Control (LoC) with the Commanders and their security preparedness.
Official sources said Gen Singh flew to Rashtriya Rifles Headquarters at Dharmund in Doda and Sila in Kishtwar as part of his visit to formations under the Nagrota-based 16 Corps.
The Army chief was briefed on the current situation and CI operations by the respective General Officers Commanding (GOCs), sources said.
The Army chief reviewed the security scenario and discussed various issues related to the armed forces with formation commanders.
Gen Singh reviewed security scenario in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts with the Commanders at Dharmund and Sila and assessed the operational preparedness.
While Doda district was stated to be free of militancy, few militants were still reported to be operating in Kishtwar and Ramban district.
He had detailed inter-action with the Army Commanders on various aspects of the situation.
Later, the General flew to 10 Div Headquarters at Akhnoor and had briefing from GOC Rustam Patnaik. He inter-acted with senior officers of the Div.
Later, the Army chief flew back to New Delhi.
Yesterday, Gen Bikram Singh had met Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and had detailed review of security scenario in the State including Chinese intrusions in Ladakh. He had also held a high level review of security scenario with GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen KT Parnaik and GOC 16 Corps Lt Gen DS Hooda besides other top Commanders of the Army.
He had also interacted with troops deployed on the Line of Control (LoC) in his meeting at Rajouri Div. He had visited forward posts of the Army in Kalsian at Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
An official handout said the Army chief complimented the troops for their selfless sacrifice in ensuring the sanctity of the country’s frontiers and in facilitating return of normalcy in the State.
Gen Singh exhorted the troops to uphold the core values of the Indian Army through dedication towards duty.
