SRINAGAR, June 13: The summer capital of the State today witnessed a unprecedented and massive sit- in protest on the issue of ” no reservation in promotions” with hundreds of members of general category irrespective of caste, creed, colour and religious affiliations from all parts of Kashmir province including areas of Anantnag, Shopian, Bandipora, Budgam, Pulwama etc, joined to participate in mesmerizing show of strength at Press Enclave, Partap Park here.
The Jammu Kashmir General Category Welfare Forum- an amalgam of various social organisations and sects fighting for the cause of general category people on the issue of reservation on economic basis, a pre-requisite for inclusive development, has launched this vigorous campaign across the State. The first initiative is to fight for implementation of “no reservation in promotions”.
Syed Shamim Ahmed, chairman of the Forum informed the public gathering of the mischievous design of some MLAs particularly Asgar Ali Karbalaie (MLA Kargil), Deldan Namgayal (MLA Nubra), Javed Ahmed Rana (MLA Mendhar), Ajaz Ahmed Khan (MLA-Gool Arnas), Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (MLA Gulabgarh), Neelam Langeh (MLA Ramban), Dina Nath (MLA Chenani), Kuldeep Raj (MLA Hira Nagar), Dr Devinder Manyal ( MLA Samba), Dr Krishan Lal (MLA Chhamb), Qamar Hussain (MLA Rajouri), and Chodhary Mohd Akram (MLA Surankote) who have formed an unholy consortium irrespective of party affiliation to pursue their nefarious objective of seeking passage of Bill over ruling the Judgment of the High Court, striking down the Reservation in Promotion Rules 9,10 & 34 and Sec 6 of Reservation Act 2005.
JKGCWF made general category people aware of the ill conceived action of these MLAs and in particular Rigzin Zora who has in connivance with support of these MLAs contemplated to introduce Private Members Bill in the Legislative Assembly on the issue of reservation in promotions. The action of these MLAs speaks volumes of the brewing hatred among them against general category masses and they have breached the oath of constitution taken by them while assuming the charge. They have built an unholy consortium on the basis of caste to seek murder of merit and seniority.
Speaking on the occasion Daljeet Singh expressed serious concern and displeasure over the conduct of these MLAs who have been voted to power by all of us irrespective of caste, colour and creed and now their approach has become partisan as is evident from the fact that they are trying to bring amendments to overrule the justice delivered by Judicial system after thorough scrutiny of rules/ merits of case in vogue.
Syed Altaf Andrabi patron, JKGCWF spoke about the grave injustice being meted out to general masses by way of providing caste based reservation, whereas, the reservation if at all needs to be provided must be on economic basis.
G M Akhoon and Aadil Ramzan highlighted that the judgment of High Court and subsequent proceedings are testimony of the fact that these judgments have corrected a constitutional anomaly which was depriving general category incumbents of their constitutional right of equal opportunity of advancement of their career and represents the aspirations of 70% of the population.
Meanwhile, Joint Action Committee led by its convenor Ved Parkash Sharma extended full support to the programme. The members of Aarakshan Virodhi Manch also supported the programme and vowed to fight alongside JAC on this issue.
JKGCWF as a mark of protest against such MLAs staged dharna and also made general category masses aware and vigilant to be prepared for giving a political alternative to the people so that the nefarious designs of these elements are checked and a conducive atmosphere is created for safeguarding right to equality of general category masses. Forum impressed upon general category people to intensify agitation and come on roads if any move of political parties is against the general category masses.
