POONCH, Dec 8: Vowing to fight for their genuine and constitutional right till the end, the members of general category today lodged strong protest demanding that Government without any delay must implement the High Court decision on “no reservation in promotions” on the ground level.
In an extraordinary meeting held at Dashnami Akhara complex Poonch here today, hundreds of people from all sections of the society vowed to fight up to the logical conclusion. It was decided that the general category people will fight tooth and nail for their constitutional right. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Saleem Bandey.
While appreciating High Court decision regarding quashing of reservation in promotions, the members demanded that Govt should implement the decision in letter and spirit and without any delay. They said that High Court has done a great justice with people from general category. They also quoted that reservation in promotions has deprived the general category incumbents of their constitutional right of equal opportunity in advancement of their career even after getting appointed on merit.
They demanded that reservation in promotions be brought to an end as it was helping only a few families who are already well off and well placed in strata of society. They pointed out that High Court of J&K after thorough assessment of situation of J&K Reservation Rules 2005, found them violating the basic Fundamental `Rights to Equality’ as enshrined in Constitution of India. Therefore, the High Court struck down these reservations in promotions rules as well as quashing certain promotion orders issued since last 15 years.
This judgment has come in wake of Supreme Court judgment on the subject ‘Reservation in Promotions’, wherein, Supreme Court from time to time has held reservations as `unconstitutional & illegal’.
