GDCT hosts awareness prog on welfare schemes for Gujjar-Bakerwals

JAMMU, Jan 24: Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust (GDCT) today organized a major awareness programme focused on Government welfare schemes for the upliftment of the vulnerable Gujjar-Bakerwal tribal communities. The event was held at the Begum Akbar Jahan Research Library Conference Hall, GDCT Complex Jammu.
The programme was jointly organized by GDCT in collaboration with SKUAST-Jammu and the Departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, and Sheep Husbandry. The programme brought together subject experts, field officers, and tribal beneficiaries on a single platform to promote scientific interventions and modern livelihood practices.
Highlighting the vision behind the initiative, Chairman of the Trust, Arshad Ali Choudhary, emphasized that tribal welfare must be driven by awareness, innovation, and institutional convergence.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A where community members engaged directly with Government officials and scientists to resolve grievances and learn about application processes for various welfare grants & schemes.
The programme was graced by Sandeep Kumar, Mission Director JKCIP/HADP, as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests included Gul Syed (Director Horticulture, Jammu), Dr Amrish Vaid (Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu), Dr Sanjay Gupta (Director Animal Husbandry, Jammu) and Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma (Nodal Officer JKCIP, SKUAST-Jammu).
In his keynote address, the chief guest detailed the benefits of the JKCIP and HADP projects for the welfare of farmers and offered strategic suggestions to strengthen the local farming culture.
Those who addressed the gathering included former chairman GDCT and designated Senior Advocate of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir, Shah Mohammad Chowdhary and Advocate Mohammad Anwar Chowdhary (Senior Trustee).
The event was attended by Trustees including Financial Advisor Bashir Ahmed Noon, Ch Shouket Javed, Ch Mohammad Yousuf Khepar and Ch Sajad Majeed Chechi.
