JAMMU, Sept 4: In connection with the National Nutrition Week Celebrations (Sept 1 to 7), Home Science Department of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar today conducted a “Healthy Tiffin Snacks contest” for school going children.
Principal of the college, Dr Kiran Bakshi was the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking on the occasion, she stressed that snacks play a major role in children’s diet and serving healthy snacks to children is important in providing good nutrition, supporting lifelong healthy eating habits and helping to prevent certain diseases.
Prof Sudha Gupta, Head of Home Science Department, expressed that the challenge for every mother is how to pack healthy and nutritious food which kids often tend to avoid in a sumptuous and tempting way that makes them ask for more, which can be done by simply cooking the same cereals and vegetables in a different way and the entire taste can be altered.
More than 30 students from different streams of the college participated and prepared different nutritious recipes. Prof Aekta Gupta, Dr Anuradha Gandotra and Prof Ashwani Khajuria were the judges for the event.
The recipes were judged on the basis of nutritive contribution, presentation and palatability. Vanya of BSc Part I and Diksha and Tamanna of Ist year Home science, were adjudged first, second and third, respectively.
