GCOE organizes seminar on Drug De-Addiction

JAMMU, Sept 7: The NSS unit of the Government College of Education Jammu (GCOE) today organized seminar on Drug De-Addiction.
Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kathua and Sub-Judge (Senior Division) Pooja Raina was the Resource Person on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Pooja Raina spoke about causes and consequences of substance abuse, de-addiction, drug trafficking and about some provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. She deliberated upon the various facets of the drug abuse problem and emphasized the need to improve understanding of the issue for countering its impact on the overall physical and mental wellbeing of humans.
She highlighted the role being played by the Legal Services Authority in generating awareness about the ill-effect of the menace.
Principal of the College Prof Aketa Gupta, in her address, said, “it is the duty of every conscious citizen to help in fighting the menace and Government College of Education will leave no stone unturned to generate awareness”.
Dr Shubhra Jamwal, NSS PO spoke about the impact of drug addiction on the society and the role of parents in curbing the menace through effective communication with their children.
In the welcome address, Prof Shapia Shameem Bhatti, convenor Nasha Mukt Samaj Aandolan, threw light on the different aspects of drug abuse.
The organizing committee members Prof Seema Kumari, Prof Sarita Dogra and Prof Neeraj Verma, Dr Rajinder Kour, Dr Shalini and Prof Vinay Lata were among others present on the occasion.
