A good news for the aspirants seeking admission in the Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET), Jammu, as for the first time, approval has been accorded for 54 seats in M.Tech programme from All India Council for Technical Education. Another point to cheer about it is that Jammu Engineering College is the first one to have M.Tech programme so far.Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Jammu, thus is progressively getting projected on the national canvas of technology and engineering. All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) which is a statutory body under the Ministry of Human Resource Development having felt adequately convinced about the potential and demand for such seats and also the same supported by the authorities from the Higher Education Department of the UT and the faculty and the staff of the GCET made it possible.
The programmes are Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering with the intake capacity of 18 students for each department for the current academic session. In other words, it means that the benefits of these seats shall start to be obtained from immediate effect. There is no reason that if sincere hard efforts are put forth for a genuine cause or for a convincingly appealing demand, the same cannot bear fruits. In the instant case, it is proven beyond doubt in respect of efforts of college management and Higher Education Department authorities. Next year, hopefully academic session was likely to also have 36 Civil and Electronics seats.
