JAMMU, Nov 14: Former General Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu, Gaurav Gupta, met with Chief Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir, Atal Dulloo, today to address the ongoing issues related to the Gair Mumkin Khad lands affecting numerous residents in Jammu.
During the meeting, Gupta submitted a memorandum, highlighting the need for prompt Government intervention in resolving these longstanding land disputes.
In the memorandum, Gupta praised the J&K Administration under Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for making strides in resolving land delineation issues, particularly in Kathua and Samba districts.
However, he emphasized that unresolved cases in Jammu continue to impact many residents, citing a lack of progress on critical directives related to Gair Mumkin Khad areas.
Gupta pointed out that nearly five months ago, the Government had directed the Irrigation Department to determine the width of the existing Khads to clarify land boundaries and curb encroachment.
Despite this instruction, he alleged a lack of action by the department, attributing the delay to “apathy and inefficiency” within the system.
“This inaction is frustrating and deeply disappointing,” Gupta stated, adding that residents remain affected by the department’s inaction and lack of accountability.
He asserted that the failure to implement these directives has led to a “gap between policy and execution,” impacting the livelihoods of affected families and eroding public trust.
Gupta also stressed that the delay in resolving these land disputes goes beyond bureaucratic concerns, highlighting its direct impact on the economic stability of affected communities.
“This is not just an administrative lapse but a failure that undermines public welfare,” he asserted.
Appealing to the Chief Secretary, Gupta urged immediate action to hold the Irrigation Department accountable.
He called for a strict directive to enforce departmental responsibilities, with consequences for continued delays.
Chief Secretary Dulloo assured Gupta that the administration is committed to addressing the concerns raised, promising swift action to hold the department accountable and expedite the resolution of land disputes affecting residents.
