Gas leak reported near Jammu Airport

JAMMU, Feb 7: A gas leak was reported near Jammu Airport today, creating panic in the area.
Officials said the incident occurred after a chemical cylinder leaked inside a scrap shop in the Rani Bagh locality, some 500 metres away from the Jammu Airport.
Accordingly, teams of Police, Fire and Emergency Services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed in the area to contain the situation, they said.
According to them, the situation was brought under complete control after hectic efforts by the joint teams.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated to determine the nature of the gas and how the cylinder ended up at the scrap dealer’s shop, officials noted, adding that the substance will be identified through scientific analysis, and further action will be taken accordingly.
However, officials did not rule out the possibility that the gas could be a hazardous chemical, including sulfur mustard.
