RAMBAN, Apr 28: A gas filled oil tanker of Bharat Petroleum, which plunged into river Chenab near Karol bridge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was retrieved from the river here today.
As per police sources, a gas-filled oil tanker bearing registration number HR55-0440, attached with Bharat Petroleum plunged into river Chenab on April 24 at around 2200 hours near Karol bridge, resulting into drowning of the driver, who has been identified as Zarait Khan, son of Hamid Khan of Kandi, District Rajouri.
The tanker was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, when the incident took place.
District Administration took up the matter with the officials of Bharat Petroleum.
Due to heavy flow of water, the tanker rolled down around five kilometers and reached near Maitra.
Police team headed by SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar, the officials of BP led by its Manager and QRT volunteers today retrieved the gas tanker from river Chenab near Maitra. During the operation, the power supply in Maitra and nearby areas was also snapped, to avert any tragic tragedy, as the tanker was filled with 1400 metric tonne gas.
However, the search operation is going on to fish-out the body of the driver.
A case in this regard stands registered with Ramban police station.
