Ganga for focus on e-commerce to promote handicraft sector

JAMMU, Nov 23: Stressing on developing and strengthening marketing linkages through exports, direct sale and expos, the Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Parkash Ganga said that these are the major components for new proactive approach aimed at promotion of State’s distinct arts and crafts.
The Minister said this while chairing the 121st meeting of Board of Directors for J&K Handicrafts (Sales & Export) Corporation here today.
Minister of State for Hajj & Auqaf (Independent charge), PHE and Irrigation & Flood Control, Power Development, Industries & Commerce Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi (Vice-Chairman JKHC) besides other members of the Board were also present in the meeting.
Minister for I&C, who is also the Chairman of the Board deliberated on overall performance of the Corporation and urged the management to devise all possible strategies to ensure 100 percent achievement of  the targets  for the current year.
The Minister also called for restructuring of the Corporation to increase its economic viability and self sufficiency.
The Minister emphasized on building customer trust by branding the products to be showcased at various art emporiums established in different cities. He also impressed upon the officers for utilizing the human resource to enhance sales at all outlets.
Andrabi while addressing the meeting said that the Corporation should strive hard to improve its performance as the main objective of the Corporation is to procure craft goods from State artisans and providing better national and international marketing avenues to these artisans.
Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce Department Shailendra Kumar stressed that all efforts should be made to achieve the target and exhorted upon the officers to chalk out an effective monitoring mechanism for improving the performance of the Corporation.
Earlier, the Managing Director presented Annual/Performance Report of the Corporation for the financial year 2015-16 and Business Plan for 2016-17.
Later, Aman Movement headed by Prof Rajendar Kachroo presented a power point presentation regarding the steps that can be taken to enhance profitability of the Corporation.
