UDHAMPUR, May 12: Udhampur Police, led by Incharge SSP Benam Tosh, today succeeded in busting a gang involved in stealing away sheep and goats of nomadic Bakkarwal-Gujjars and selling them in the different markets of the State.
So for, 43 stolen sheep worth rupees two lakh approximately have been recovered from Marmat areas of District Doda by a Kud Police party.
According to police, the said gang of the thieves entered inside the shed of one Ghulam Rasool son of Hazi Fisha of Shiv Garh in upper reaches of Kud and decamped with 52 sheep on the intervening night of May 9-10.
After registering the case in this connection, three Police parties led by SDPO Chenani Gian Chand Sharma, conducts raids and succeeded in arresting kingpin of this inter district gang of thieves besides effecting recovery of 43 sheep/goats from his possession from Marmat area of District Doda.
During questioning of the kingpin, it came to fore that the said gang of the thieves was involved in a series of such thefts. To ascertain more information, interrogation of the arrested thieves was still going on at Police Station Kud.
