JAMMU, Sept 8: Dr.Gagan Bhagat M.L.A from R.S Pura Constituency today laid the foundations of boundary walls in the various Government educational institutions in R.S Pura Assembly segment .
He said despite several letters written to the Revenue Department over the years, it failed to demarcate the area for construction of a boundary wall at Government Boys High School, Simbal Camp, falling under the jurisdiction of Miran Sahib Educational Zone. The school has been without a boundary wall since its inception in early seventies when a letter, written by one of the N.G.Os working at a National level from J&K confirmed the allotment of more than 20 Kanals of land to the then Government Primary School. The encroachments came up and Revenue Department as well as the Department of School Education since then failed to demarcate the area for construction of a boundary wall, he added.
He said in 1996 the school was upgraded to high school, even then the wall never came up. The boundary wall is missing from three sides which incidentally face a busy road which witnesses rush during the school hours. The playground of the school along with toilets for both boys and girls are without a boundary wall. A few years back, a primary school child, was injured after a motorcycle hit him, the MLA added.
He said the student came on the road while playing on the ground. The school has been facing a whole lot of problems due to the missing boundary wall for more than 41 years. Despite funds for the same being granted by the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), the wall has not come up as the Revenue Department was not demarcating the area, he added. Dr Bhagat said that he took the initiative and called a joint meeting of Revenue Department, School Education Department and Police Department and got the land demarcated and illegal encroachments removed and construction work was started. This was the long pending demand of the school at Simbal Camp.
Similarly boundary wall issues were also pending at Village Darsopur which too was solved by the MLA. A total of Rs 25 lakh were spent in these developmental works.
