JAMMU, May 16: Association of Minibus Owners, Jammu has appealed the Union Minister for Transport, Nitin Gadkari to announce compensation package for them because of the loss sustained by the Minibus (Matador) owners of J&K due to COVID-19 lockdown.
In an open letter to the Union Minister, the Association president Vimal Sharma said that the action taken in the matter may kindly be intimated as the mini bus owner/transporters were badly affected due to their non earnings for the stoppage of their transports services and they were now hand to mouth in this lockdown period from 17-3-2020 to 17-5-2020.
“For 61 days , they suffered loss of more than Rs one lakh, which include their daily earnings (around Rs 800/ day) after paying daily wages of Rs 500 and Rs 400 to their engaged Driver and conductor( totalling Rs 900 per day ),” he said adding that the transporters were already burdened of an amount of Rs 280/ per day as document fee/ insurance fee /token fee / permit fee /passenger tax /fitness fee, which must be remitted for one year.
He urged the Union Minister to have a sympathetic view of their pathetic financial position and accommodate them suitably for early redressal of the problem of the transporters.
