Funds for Devika Rejuvenation diverted to Sewerage Treatment Plant: Paba

UDHAMPUR, May 19: Udhampur Development Council (UDC) today alleged that funds released for Devika Rejuvenation Project at Udhampur under National River Conservation Plan (NRCP) scheme were diverted to Drainage & Sewerage Treatment Plant.
While addressing the media persons, president of UDC and a social activist, Anil Paba alleged that the DPR for the Rejuvenation of Devika and Tawi river Project by Ministry of Environment and Forest, Climate Change was converted into `Pollution Abatement of River Devika and River Tawi at Udhampur town.
“Amount sanctioned to the tune of Rs 186.74 crores has been diverted to Drainage and Sewerage Treatment Plants and only Rs12 crores are likely to be utilized for beautification, Ghats, community Halls, cremation ghats etc,” he said and added that it has hurt the sentiment of millions of soul in Udhampur as there was no proposal for revival of River Devika at Udhampur and removal of unauthorized construction along the river Devika.
Paba demanded an independent enquiry about the said project and asked the administration to take immediate steps to demarcate the Devika land right from Gangera hills to Nansoo temple and remove illegal encroachment so that the NRCP scheme worth Rs 186.74 crores can be implemented in its true letter and spirit.
