Cricket in India has become a means of easy money. Exploiting the attachment of the Indian population to the game to the fanatic (Janoon) level, the powers involved in the management of the game are making their fortunes. It is this fact that many who may not be knowing the ABC of cricket at practical level are controlling the National and State level Cricket Boards. Even after the intervention of the Apex Court, the Board is not mending itself completely.
Sehwag cannot be faulted for his candid comment. The loss of India in Champions Trophy Summit clash. The exit of coolhead Anil Kumble as National Coach and appointment of Ravi Shastri after extending the date of submission of application to allow his application shall not be seen in isolation. Without casting aspersions on the cricketing talent of Shastri Kohli duo, the course of events that led to the appointment of Shastri as National coach underscores the vested interest that is ruling the roost in the cricket board.
The 7.5 crore annual package to the National coach without having to invest anything brings into focus how cricket in India has become a tool to make easy money.
To conclude, cricket in India has not remained a gentleman’s game but a means to insult the sentiments of cricket loving people and a source of amassing huge wealth by the selected fear.
