SRINAGAR, Nov 30: The higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall today while night temperatures across Kashmir improved but the Air traffic at Srinagar airport remained disrupted due to fog.
The Meteorological Depart-ment has forecast rain and snow in the hilly area of the State for Thursday. “Rain and snowfall is likely to occur in the higher reaches of the State during the next 24 hours. The weather would remain cloudy throughout the State during this period, but we are not expecting any appreciable rainfall in the plains,” it said.
Higher reaches of Kashmir including Sonamarg, Zojila, Drass and Minamarg on Srinagar -Leh highway received fresh snowfall this afternoon.
An official said that it started snowing in Sonamarg and Zojila this afternoon. However, traffic from both Sonamarg and Kargil sides plied on Srinagar-Leh highway.
There was drizzle across Kashmir this afternoon brining some improvement in weather. The drizzle also led to improvement in visibility.
Earlier, the foggy conditions disrupted air traffic at Srinagar airport this afternoon. An official said that four flights-one each of Air India, GOAir, Indio, and JeT Airways operated this morning from Srinagar airport. He said that all other 13 flights were cancelled due to fog and poor visibility.
In the meantime, night temperatures across Kashmir rose above normal. Srinagar’s night lowest temperature was 3.9 degree Celsius, four degrees above normal.
In Pahalgam the minimum temperature was 2.9 degree Celsius, while in Gulmarg it was 2.0 degree Celsius. Leh recorded a minus 3.1 while Kargil recorded zero degrees as their lowest night temperatures.
The minimum temperature in Jammu city was also a degree above normal at 11.1 degree Celsius. Katra recorded 12.5 degree Celsius, Batote 9.3 degree Celsius, Banihal 5.0 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah 4.2 degree Celsius as the lowest night temperature.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 12.2 degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time off the year is 12 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded 15.1 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 10.8 degree Celsius, Kupwara 11.5 degree Celsius, Kokernag 15.2 degree Celsius, Leh 9 degree Celsius and Kargil 7 degree Celsius.
The day temperature in Jammu city was recorded at 25.3 degree Celsius, while it was 21.5 degree Celsius in Katra town, 18.8 degree Celsius in Batote, 18. 2 degree Celsius in Banihal and 18. 6 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
