SRINAGAR : Fresh batches of pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, where so far more than 1.67 lakh yatris had paid obeisance since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2.
Despite cloudy sky, the yatra was going on from traditional Pahalgam and shortest Baltal base routes to cave shrine, situated at 13,500 feet. Yatra was resumed yesterday after remaining suspended on July 12 due to slippery track condition after incessant rains.
A yatra official told UNI that fresh batches of yatris, including women, children and sadhus, left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy shrine early this morning. The exact number of pilgrims undertaking the pilgrimage today will be known later in the day as gates will remain open till 1130 hrs.
Meanwhile, pilgrims, who had night halt at different halting stations on traditional Pahalgam route have also started their onward journey towards the cave shrine. The pilgrims, who had night halt at cave shrine after having darshan are now on way back to base camp. Yesterday, 18,350 yatris paid obeisance at the holy cave. With this, a total of 1,67,451 yatris had darshan of the ice-lingam at the Holy Cave. (AGENCIES)
