PULWAMA, May 15: Frequent traffic jams in Pulwama town during the morning and evening hours irk the locals and the commuters who are passing through the town.
While day to day traffic jams seem to have taken a toll on the locals, they are appealing the district administration to look into the matter.
Locals said that traffic jams are at its peak in the town in morning from 8 am to 11 am which is prime time as the students, employees are required to reach to their respective destinations. Same remains the situation in the evening also.
“The town is struggling with the day to day traffic jams, the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner had assured that the traffic situation will see an improvement, but nothing has been done so far,” said a local shopkeeper.
Pertinently, there is circular road which was constructed in the town and was aimed at reducing the rush of traffic in the town. However, the locals are saying that despite having the circular road in the district, there has been no respite from the pestering traffic jams.
Locals are saying that the frequent traffic jams are affecting the students who have to wait for hours to reach their destinations. “Apart from students, at times patients are stuck in the traffic and that is the worst part of it,” they said.
The residents and the shopkeepers attributed the frequent jams to the entry of heavy vehicles during the no entry time, which then leads to the vehicles getting stuck resulting in annoying traffic jams.
“That thing is also there, the heavy vehicles are allowed to ply on the road during the no entry timings, which really add to the woes of the commoners,” he said.
