Prompted by sense of humanism the judge of a Delhi court gave life imprisonment to an offender with strange antecedents. He had walked out of prison after 15 years of imprisonment for murder case. Feeling rejected by the society, he decided to walk back into the prison by the same route as before. Now prison is his home and the prisoners and guardsmen are his family. He has overcome the problem of non-acceptability in the society as well as of fending for himself through the benefactions of the state. We have a very large number of beggars, mendicants and recluses in this country. They may find inspiration from this incident and think of committing lesser than murder crimes that will help them with legal entry into a prison to live a life of peace and comfort and without hassles of fending for themselves. The incident also shows the generosity of our judiciary to let a man enjoy the freedom of prison life. If criminals decide to make prisons their permanent abode, the losers in the game would be the law enforcing authorities for whom the criminals are a big source of revenue. This may also mean that we change the name of a jail and call it Prisoners’ Freedom Home.
