POONCH, May 14 : In a remarkable initiative aimed at extending healthcare facilities to the remotest border areas, the Health Department Poonch organised a comprehensive Free Medical Camp in the extremely forward and strategically sensitive Vibrant Village Dadote in Balakote-Mendhar sector of Poonch district, located barely 200 meters from the LoC.
The initiative witnessed active participation of residents of the tiny border hamlet, which has a population of merely 36 comprising men, women and children. Despite its small population and challenging terrain, the Health Department ensured the availability of comprehensive healthcare services at the doorstep of the villagers.
During the camp, Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) screening for hypertension and diabetes was carried out, while free medicines were distributed among the beneficiaries diagnosed during the screening process. The medical team also conducted awareness and counselling sessions on preventive healthcare and healthy lifestyle practices.
A special Basic Life Support (BLS) training programme was organised for the villagers, focusing on CPR techniques, emergency wound dressing and trauma management in case of cross-border shelling incidents, considering the village’s close proximity to the Line of Control.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, CMO Poonch said that no citizen living in remote border areas would be left deprived of healthcare facilities.
