Four smugglers held, 69 bovines rescued

RAMBAN, Apr 26: Police here today under the supervision of SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar arrested four bovine smugglers, registered equal number of FIRs, rescued 69 bovines and seized four vehicles involved in the crime.
Cops from Police Station Chanderkote while on vehicle checking duty intercepted two vehicles bearing registration numbers JK02CL-7472 and JK14 J-1423 and during checking found 19 bovines loaded in these vehicles in cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
Two persons Mohd Akhter, son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Chappan, Dansal in Jammu and Muneer Ahmed, son of Yaqoob, resident of Wali Nullaha, Udhampur were arrested in this regard.
In another instance, cops from Police Station Ramban intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK13C-8175 and during its checking found 32 bovines loaded in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
One Shabir Ahmed, son of Mohd Qasim, resident of Tatrsoo, Ramban was arrested on the spot in this regard.
In yet another instance, cops from Police Post Jawahar Tunnel intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK03G-5853 and during its checking found 18 bovines loaded in a cruel manner and were being transported illegally.
One Altaf Hussian, son of Mohd Rafiq, resident of Mazmoon, Anantnag was arrested in this regard.
Subsequently, FIR No. 53/2024 and 54/2024 were registered at Police Station Chanderkote, FIR No. 91/2024 at Police Station Ramban and FIR No. 58/2024 was registered at Police Station Banihal under Sections 188 IPC and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and investigations started.
