JAMMU, May 20: A series of thefts rocked the Chinore area on the outskirts of Jammu during the intervening night of May 19 and 20, with unidentified thieves targeting at least four houses and fleeing with mobile phones, wallets and other valuables.
According to reports, the thefts took place around 1:30 AM when the residents were asleep. Owing to the prevailing hot weather conditions, the owners had reportedly left the doors of their houses open, which the thieves allegedly exploited to gain entry into the premises.
The burglars decamped with several costly mobile phones, cash and other household valuables before escaping from the area. Panic gripped the locality after the incidents came to light this morning.
Sources said that one of the suspects was captured in CCTV footage installed in the area, which is now being examined by the police as part of the investigation. It was further learnt that one of the stolen mobile phones was switched off and on multiple times after the theft, giving investigators a possible lead in tracing the accused.
Chinore Police Post have taken cognizance of the incidents and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the thieves. Officials said efforts are on to analyze CCTV footage and track the stolen devices to crack the case at the earliest.
