DODA, Jan 18: ‘We The Humans Forum for Nature and Mankind’ today distributed blankets to some poor families at village Harira and Janota in Khellani here through the NGO volunteer, Sadhna Devi from Malhori Panchayat.
Meanwhile, K.Y.S Manhas, chairman Executive Body of the Forum has appealed LG, Manoj Sinha to impose a blanket ban on sale and use of single use plastics in all hilly areas.
He said single use plastic remain deep in soil for hundreds of years contaminating the soil and water badly.
“By this fragile soil in hills and mountains slowly becomes barren depleting green cover which results into frequent landslides and earthquakes,” he further said.
Manhas said that there is an urgent need for manufacturers and suppliers to shift back to traditional eco friendly packaging materials to save our next generations facing a catastrophic situation not far away.
“The Government should adopt a reward policy for the industry setup in J&K to shift from the devastating single use plastic packaging materials to eco and environment friendly packaging,” he maintained.
