Formulate durable Water Supply Schemes: Sham

SRINAGAR, May 13: Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma has called upon the Engineers to formulate durable water supply schemes after certifying the source of water so that these sustain for longer periods.
The instructions in this regard were given by the Minister to the Engineers while reviewing the physical and financial status of various ongoing WSS in the Khansahib Constituency at a meeting held here today.
MLA Khansahib, Hakim Mohammad Yasin, Chief Engineer, PHE, M.A. Lanker, Joint Director Planning, Shabir Ahmed and officers of PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control from Budgam district were present in the meeting.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of schemes, the Minister laid stress on the Engineers to complete all the projects within the stipulated time frame to avoid escalation of cost. He issued specific instructions to the Engineers for maintaining quality of work and judicious use of funds on each scheme. He directed the officers to take into confidence the local MLAs while formulating new schemes in the uncovered areas to achieve the objective of providing potable drinking water to people.
Hakim Mohammad Yasin drew attention of the Minister on some important schemes, which have not been completed in time for want of funds and sought special funds for their completion. He also identified some new areas to be covered under potable water and upgradation of existing schemes in his Constituency. He also requested upgradation of irrigational infrastructure.
While briefing the meeting, the Chief Engineer, PHE, Kashmir informed that there are 46 water supply schemes at an estimated cost of Rs. 57.18 crore under execution in Khansahib Constituency. An amount of Rs. 31.12 crore has been incurred so far on these schemes. He assured that all out efforts will be made to achieve the targets well in time.
