Srinagar, Sept 13: Renowned surgeon and former Principal of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, Dr. Ashiq Hussain Naqashbandi, passed away today
He died early in the morning, following which his Nimaz-e-Janaza was held at 11 a.m. at the graveyard of Naqashband Sahib, Nowhatta.
Dr. Naqashbandi, former Head of GMC Srinagar’s Department of Surgery, was regarded as a distinguished surgeon and an eminent academician who contributed immensely to the medical field in J&K.
He did his MBBS and M.S. in General Surgery from Government Medical College, Srinagar and later completed his super-specialization (MCh) in Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) from CMC Vellore
Dr. Naqashbandi joined Government Medical College, Srinagar as a faculty member in 1981 and went on to become Head of the Department of Surgery. In February 2005, he was appointed as Principal/Dean, GMC Srinagar, and continued till May 2006.
Meanwhile, his demise has been widely mourned.
