Former MLA submits demands to Union Home Minister

JAMMU, Mar 31: A delegation led by Prem Lal, former Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) and Bharat Bhushan, Sarpanch, president, Border Village Union, district Kathua, met Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and submitted memorandum of demands.
The delegation during interaction with the Union Home Minister said that no compensation has been paid to the farmers on behalf of their lands, where BSF erected posts and towers and also did fencing. They said that the farmers are not allowed to cultivate the land between the international border and the fencing and requested him for compensation.
The VDC, who are performing commendable job as a second ring security to the border are paid meager honorarium of Rs 500 per month and demanded increase in the same to Rs 3,000 per month.
The fate of the SPOs was also miserable as they are being paid Rs 3,000 per month, but they perform their duty at par with J&K Police. The honorarium of the SPOs’ should be increased to Rs 6,000 keeping in view the rising prices of the essential commodities.
They also demanded reservation for the youth living along international border villages at par with the residents of LOC and also demanded recruitment drive for them in armed forces.
