JAMMU, Jan 3: Nawang Rigzin Jora, former Minister, met Governor, Satya Pal Malik at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Jora expressed his gratitude to Governor for sanctioning the cluster University for Ladakh and apprised him about various developmental issues of the region particularly in Nubra Valley.
Governor urged Jora to continue his endeavours for promoting public welfare.
Dr. Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of Waqf Develop-ment Committee, Ministry of Minority Affairs also met Governor and discussed various issues relating to public welfare, women empowerment, working of the State Waqf Board and condition of shrines under the control of the Board.
Governor assured Dr. Andrabi that all these important matters would be given due consideration and urged her to continue sustained endeavours towards ensuring Public welfare and restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.
Balwant Thakur, former Consultant-cum-Regional Director, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) J&K, and Director of “Natrang Theatre Group” also met Governor.
Thakur, a Padma Shri Awardee, apprised Governor about the dramatic performances staged by the Natrang Group and shared his views regarding preservation and promotion of the traditional art forms of the Jammu and Kashmir.
Complimenting Thakur for Natrang’s continuing contribution towards strengthening theatre activities in the State, Governor emphasized the usefulness of street plays and other cultural activities which disseminate powerful social messages and highlight the problems of the common masses.
Sheetal Nanda, Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, briefed Governor about the to-date status of various ongoing schemes in the Rural Development Department and about the training programmes being conducted for Panches and Sarpanches who have been elected in recently concluded elections to Panchayats.
Governor emphasized the need to empower the institution of Panchayats for strengthening democracy at the grass root level and ushering rural areas towards holistic development. He urged Nanda to ensure every possible effort towards Rural development.
