JAMMU, Sept 16: Former MLA from RS Pura, Prof Gharu Ram today left BJP and joined Congress Party along with his hundreds of supporters.
Prof Gharu Ram was welcomed in the party at Congress HQ here today by the PCC president, GA Mir, senior vice president, Sham Lal Sharma, vice president, Raman Bhalla and other senior Congress leaders along with large number of his supporters.
Prof Gharu Ram reached the PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk Jammu along with his supporters amidst raising of slogans in favour of the Congress Party and its leadership. He was garlanded by the PCC president and other senior functionaries of PCC and inducted into the party.
Prof Gharu Ram, while addressing his supporters expressed full faith in the policies of the Congress and its leadership in the country and the State and assured to work dedicatedly to strengthen the party in RS Pura constituency and elsewhere amongst his supporters.
PCC Chief, while welcoming Prof Gharu Ram into the Congress party, said that RS Pura area in general and especially the down-trodden sections have remained the backbone of the congress party and the induction of Prof Gharu Ram is an indication that Congress is on its path to restore its lost confidence and support in these segments.
Sham Lal Sharma while welcoming former BJP MLA, said that his entry would give boost to the party not only in RS Pura belt but in other areas of his followers. He said the border belt has always believed in Congress ideology.
Raman Bhalla, expressed hope that induction of Prof Gharu Ram into Congress Party would further strengthen the party. Other prominent leaders who were present include PCC chief spokesman, Ravinder Sharma, general secretaries, Namrata Sharma, Manjeet Singh and Vikram Malhotra, Former Minister Gurbachan Kumari Rana and Indu Pawar (Mahila Congress president).
