SHIMLA, Oct 18:
Former BJP minister Krishan Kapoor was booked on Thursday for alloting a prime residential plot in Dharamsala on his and his wife name while he was chairing an urban development authority being a Minister, a police official said.
According to Deputy Inspector General (Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau) A P Singh, a case against misuse of power has been registered against Mr Kapoor, while he was chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Housing and Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) under the Prevention of Corruption Act,
Mr Kapoor was considered a stanch loyalists of BJP national vice President Shanta Kumar who was industry minister in the P.K. Dhumal-led Bharatiya Janata Party Government
Mr Singh said the case was registered after the state high court, hearing a petition August2, ordered a probe into the allotment of a prime residential plot in Dharamsala to Kapoor’s wife when he was heading an urban development authority.
A division bench of Chief Justice A M Khanwilkar and Justice V K Sharma said they were “of the considered opinion that all aspects of the matter should be inquired into by the vigilance department by an officer not below the rank of superintendent of police”.
The court had said the “probe would also unravel involvement of officials concerned as well as other persons”.
Mr Kapoor’s name was also in the chargesheet of Congress during opposition which was submitted to the President on which present Congress rule was conducting Vigilance probe after taking power in the state. (UNI)
