Forest staff, locals construct pond for water conservation

POONCH, June 28: In a unique joint initiative to conserve water, the Forest staff of Haveli Range of Poonch Forest Divisional, created water pond with the support of locals in Salori area near the Line of Control.
This is the first initiative in the district under DFO Mohan Choudhary, along with local public who voluntarily constructed a Kacha water pond in Forest Compartment 218/H near Upper Salotri, Mohalla Hillan, just near the LOC fence as a goodwill gesture in entry point activity and for the purpose of water harvesting, ground water recharge and drinking water for wildlife. The department plans to constructed several such water ponds for water harvesting in other areas of the district.
The Panchayat representatives of Upper Salotri and Chairman VFC Jhullas also participated in the construction work of water pond.
Forest department along with general public also planted Chinar tree saplings near downside of pond site. The Panchayat representative has informed to take care of planted chinar plants till onset of monsoon and also take all measure to protect them. With onset of monsoon, the water pond filled with rainwater will be very beneficial for the wildlife, water harvesting and ground water recharge.
The locals of the area by getting inspiration from the Forest staff affirmed that they would take initiative at their own level in future for conservation of water. They extended gratitude to the Forest staff and Divisional Forest Officer Poonch for such noble initiative of water conservation.
