Forest officer arrested, illicit timber seized

SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Police arrested a forest officer and seized illicit timber in the frontier district of Kupwara last evening.
A police spokesman said that Kupwara police on a tip off recovered 147 cubic feet of illicit deodar timber from compartment number 46 NH. The spokesman said that the timber was allegedly cut down by a group of timber smugglers in convenience with the concerned forest officials.
“Police registered a case FIR NO 102/12 under Section 379 RPC, 6, F. Act in Police Station Kralpora. One timber smuggler and a Block Forest Officer involved in the case have been arrested. Investigation of the case is going on and more arrests are expected in this case,” said the police spokesman.
