Forces working in close cooperation to locate missing aircraft: Navy Chief

NEW DELHI: A coordinated effort between Navy and the Indian Air Force (IAF) is going on round the clock to locate AN 32 aircraft, that went missing with 29 Defence personnel four days ago, Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba said today.
Speaking to reporters at the South Block lawns here, the Navy Chief said 17 ships- 13 from navy, and 4 from coast guard along with 18 aircraft have been deployed for the search and rescue mission.
Total 250 hours sorties flown and satellite help was also being sought, he said.
“Whatever leads were there- followed. We are maintaining close coordination for ongoing search and close liaison with families and keeping them informed,” Chief Admiral Lanba said.
The search for the aircraft was intensified late last night after satellite imagery indicated some floating objects in the sea.
Though no tangible evidence of the aircraft’s location was found, searchers and rescuers were hopeful that new inputs will help solve the mystery.
Indigenous satellites were being used for imagery at the possible location in addition to ships and aircraft.
The aircraft is missing after it took off from Chennai to Port Blair on July 22. (AGENCIES)
