Food security: SC imposes Rs 5 lakh fine on Centre, States for not filing affidavits

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh as penalty on Center and States for failing to file affidavit with details of steps being taken for ensuring food security and community kitchens for poor/homeless, after hearing a petition.   Hearing has been pending and delayed due to delay by States for five months, the Apex Court bench, headed by Justice N V Ramana, said and added that it’s unfortunate that the center/states have not responded yet to the petition.  (AGENCIES)
