JAMMU, Dec 27: In “Art for All”, a series of programme inaugurated last Sunday here at Bagh-e-Bahu and jointly organized by J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and Jammu Kashmir Bank, the traditional folk artists of Jammu region today performed Dogri, Punjabi and Kashmiri traditional folk music items.
Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, was the chief guest. While speaking on the occasion, Dr Amn said that after inauguration this is the second programme of the series. He further said that this program will be a regular feature at the same time and venue on every Sunday.
While describing the importance of this program, he further told that the main aim to initiate this series was to provide the regional folk a platform where the artists and the visitors of this historical tourist spot Bhag-e-Bahu can interact through their performances to introduce the audience the rich and old traditional folk of the region and State. He also complimented the artists who performed in today’s function.
The programme started with the performance of Dogri folk song presented by Nirbhay Singh Slathia. His items in Dogri ‘Chan Mahra Charya Uper Rajouriya, Bani Ayeyaan Pakhroo Mili Jayeyaan Choriya’, ‘Oh Kuri Jehri Jaaniya Ch Saari Raat Nachi Hi’ and ‘Kunju Chainchlo’ were highly appreciated by the large gathering present in the programme.
Another performance in Punjabi presented by Thoru Ram and Party (Premi Jatt) was another main attraction and the songs especially Mata Di Bheint and Mirja Saheba got great applause.
The last item, which was Kashmiri traditional folk music Chhakkri and Bachnagma was performed by Mohammad Yaseen and Party.
The rhythm was presented by Rakesh Kona (Dholak), Rakesh Khanna (flute), Joginder Pal (Tabla), Krishan Kumar (Synth) and Bishan Das (Harmonium).
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Anil Ticku, who also presented vote of thanks.
