Flower growers crave for Govt attention

JAMMU Aug 23: Flower growers of Jammu province met under the leadership of Tajinder Singh president Flower Growers Association and expressed  concern over the grim scenario of commercial floriculture in Jammu province.
Tajinder Singh said that two working seasons have come to end but the ground activities are elusive, the financial year 2016-17 is over by 45% of its time line and the lackadaisical attitude on the administrative level resulting into grant of less budget due to which till date no funds have been spend for the extension activities of commercial floriculture in Jammu. With respect to inputs, technology interventions, extension, value addition, marketing infrastructure and lack of funds under centrally sponsored schemes.
Singh said that tall claims have been made regarding export of the flowers from J&K State  but State has failed to tap potential of 300 crore market of domestic consumption of flowers of  the State and even lose flowers are imported from other parts of the country.
Flowers growers also welcomed the imitative of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for pro- motion of flori -tourism by inaugurating light and sound show in Baghe Bahu  Jammu and appealed her to personally monitor and review floriculture schemes enhance budgetary support  to mitigate unemployment problem in this sector  as a commercial floriculture proved a most lucrative and high profit enterprise in past where Jammu and Kashmir flowers were  exported to other States and now the State is depended on flowers which grow other parts of our country.
Flower growers also appealed Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Floriculture and Daljeet Singh Chib vice chairman J&K Kissan Advisory Board to use their good offices for promotion of commercial floriculture in the State.
