SRINAGAR, Oct 28: Scores of flood hit people from Sonawari in Bandipora district today staged protests here accusing the Government of distributing relief on political priority.
Displaying cheques of compensation given to them by the Government, the protesters from Shringil village in the district claimed that unaffected families were given huge amount of compensation, while “we were discriminated”.
“We were given 3800 rupees as cheques, some of us only 1500 rupees though our houses have completely collapsed,” they said.
The agitating villagers raised slogans against the Government and their legislator saying the relief material was distributed to appease those people who vote for the legislator.
