Flood Control Deptt issues notice to 13 stone crushers

KATHUA, Feb 7: Following the continuous protest and complaints from residents of Kerrian Gandyal and various quarters, the Flood Control Division Kathua came into action and issued strict notice to 13 stone crushers running in Ravi river to stop illegal mining.
The order was issued by Om Raj, Executive Engineer, Flood Control Division Kathua on February 6. “You are doing illegal mining in Ravi river without seeking any permission from our department and violating the Water resources regulation and management Act 2010. You are hereby directed to stop the illegal mining in the Ravi river or submit the allotment papers if any with a day positively, failing which action under rule will be initiated against you”, the order reads.
The stone crushers to which the notices have been issued include Krishna Stone Crusher, M/s Krishna Stone Crusher, Satkar Stone Crusher, KS Stone Crusher, Shiv Baba Stone Crusher, New One Stone Crusher, Jai Shri Krishna Stone Crusher, Radha Krishna Stone Crusher, Rudra Stone Crusher and SK Stone Crusher.
The Executive Engineer Flood Control Division Kathua, Om Raj, when contacted, said that the action has been taken on the ground reports taken by AEE after assessing all the situation and permission granted to them for extraction. He said that the department has taken the matter seriously and assessed the ground water level and other ill effects of illegal mining.
He added that the allied department were also informed in written about the notice issued to 13 stone crushers running in Ravi river. He said that district mining department, district administration and police department has also been informed about the notice.
