Sir,
The recent hike in matador fares in Jammu City has caused a chaotic situation. Strange to say that the conductors rule the roost by charing fares according to their own whims and wishes. They charge rupees eight for a distance of 4 kilometres thus flouting all the norms laid down by transport authorities. Further the 50 paise fraction in fares is an air avenue for indirect corruption.
It is requested that the transport authorities should bring to book the conductors, who charge arbitrary fare rates and the modified fare charts should be published deleting 50 paise fraction in the interests of the commuters, the way of encouraging corruption. The fare rates for the distance of 3 to 5 kilometres should be rupees six and onwards rupees 8,9 and 12 respectively for a distance upto 15 kilometres.
It is hoped that the Transport Minister should look into the matter with sincerety to issue a new directive to save the tourists and innocent passengers from the clutches of callous conductors.
Yours etc….
