Five militants killed in Shopian

SRINAGAR: Five militants were killed in an encounter which ensued in south Kashmir district of Shopian during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO), a Defence ministry spokesperson said on Friday.

Col Rajesh Kalia said security forces launched a joint search operation at village Bandpoh in Shopian on Thursday following a tip off about the presence of militants.

During the operation an encounter took place which continued till late in the night. The operation was launched again with the first light this morning.

He further said so far five militants have been killed and operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Further details were awaited, he added.
