ISLAMABAD: At least five militants were killed today by Pakistani security forces during a gunfight in the troubled northwestern tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
The security forces launched an operation in Karapa area of Mohmand district after Taliban militants killed at least nine policemen in the area on Wednesday.
“Five terrorists were killed by security forces in Mohmand early morning today,” a military statement said.
Security forces also recovered explosives and other weapons during the search operation.
Mohmand, one of the seven tribal border districts which have been home to Al-Qaeda and Taliban-led militants, is close to Charsadda town where Taliban gunmen attacked a university last month and killed at least 21 people. (AGENCIES)
