RAMBAN, Apr 1: Police in Ramban District today claimed to have arrested five bovine smugglers besides freeing from their clutches 89 animals.
A police spokesperson said that a team of Police Station Batote while perfuming vehicle checking duty at NHW Naka Nashri, intercepted two vehicles driven by one Chet Ram of Tringla, Batote and Tousif Ahmed of Maitra, Ramban.
During checking, he said, 29 animals crammed inside their vehicles in a cruel manner were freed.
Another party of Police Station Chanderkote also foiled two bovine smuggling bids by arresting two persons identified as Parvez Ahmed of Dhara Kunfer, Chanderkote and Sajad ahmed of Kachwan, Keharpora, Anantnag, said the police spokesperson.
He said, on search of their vehicles, 33 animals were rescued by the police party.
Meanwhile, a party of Police Post Jawahar Tunnel foiled a bovine smuggling bid by arresting one person identified as Rafiq Ahmed of Ragura, Jammu. On search of the vehicle he was driving, police recovered 27 animals.
Subsequently, police have registered FIRs under the relevant Sections of the law at concerned police station and started further investigation into the cases.
Pertinently, the rescue operations were conducted by the police parties led by SHO Batote, SHO Chanderkote and Incharge Police Post Jawahar Tunnel under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Ramban, SDPO Banihal, Additional SP Ramban and overall supervision of SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar.
